One of the best moves a good poker player can do is to steal the blinds at the correct time in a poker game. Learning how, where and when to steal the blinds is truly a form of art. It takes extreme patients, sense and precision. If you want to be a successful “blind stealer” you must know the traits it takes to do so. Stealing the blinds is not something that should be done very often, but just at the right times.
If you do not already know what it means to steal blinds in a poker game at full tilt poker , it is a very simple little trick. When a player is in the right position with only the blinds behind them, they will often throw out a big bet in attempts to steal the blinds. The only true purpose of raising in this situation is solely to steal the blinds from the other players. The chances of the players in the blinds having hands to defend your raise are not likely, so this will work more often then not.
There are specific times that raising the blinds is a good thing to do, and times when it is not good to do. The player that you are going against also must be a specific type of player (preferably a tight player) who will not take many chances calling your raise or raising your raise. Like mentioned before, this is part of the good timing and knowing when to pull it off.
The other thing to think about is if trying to steal blinds is really worth it or not. This is a thought that comes more into play in a tournament then anything else. In the early phases of a poker tournament blinds are relatively small compared to the size of your starting chip stack. There is really no sense in trying to steal blinds at this time because it just will not work very often, plus it just isn’t worth doing. Now, in the later phases of a poker game this is a completely different story. In this case you are going to be very happy to achieve stealing a blind. Not only that, but it is much easier to achieve then in the early phases of a game.
There are a couple different reasons that make it worth stealing blinds at this point. The first reason is because they are worth a lot more, which is going to give you a lot bigger pot when you win those blinds. The next reason is because towards the end of the game players start to tighten up a lot more. Normally, every time a player gets out before you that means more money. The lower the place that you end up in the higher the payout is. This forces players to tighten up and let others get out before them. Stealing the blinds was developed for times like these. People tend not to care so much when you are stealing their blind in this position. They are just happy they got so far in the tournament. Staying in another hand gives them hope of winning even more money.
Stealing the blinds can be a very powerful move if done at the right time. The key is to ask yourself how profitable it would be to take the chance of doing so. Many times you will be able to just simply double the blinds, and still steal from the other players. Even if it doesn’t work, at least you are being aggressive and making things happen. No matter what your hand is, you never know what will happen after those cards are flipped.
